The Department of Pharmacy Practice successfully conducted a rally to commemorate National Pharmacovigilance Week 2024. The rally, themed “Building ADR Reporting Culture for Patient Safety,” aimed to raise awareness about the importance of reporting adverse drug reactions (ADRs). Participants enthusiastically marched through the streets, carrying banners and placards that highlighted the significance of early ADR reporting in ensuring patient safety. The event was a resounding success, generating significant public awareness and fostering a culture of responsible medication use.

Report: The Ganesh Pooja celebration was held to honor Lord Ganesha, the remover of obstacles and the god of wisdom and prosperity. The event brought together devotees and community members to celebrate this auspicious occasion with devotion and joy. The venue was adorned with vibrant flowers, colourful rangoli, and a beautifully crafted idol of Lord Ganesha. Lights were strung to enhance the festive atmosphere.

Ceremony Highlights:

• Pooja Rituals: The pooja commenced with traditional chants and aarti. Devotees participated actively, offering flowers and sweets to the idol.
• Cultural Programs: The event included cultural performances such as dance and music, showcasing local talent and fostering community spirit.
• Community Involvement: Attendees shared their thoughts and blessings, enhancing the feeling of unity among participants.

Prasad Distribution:

Post-pooja, prasad (blessed offerings) was distributed to all attendees, symbolizing the sharing of blessings and gratitude.

Conclusion:

The Ganesh Pooja celebration was a grand success, fostering a sense of community and spirituality. It reinforced the values of devotion, love, and togetherness. Feedback from participants was overwhelmingly positive, with many expressing their desire to make this an annual event.

Topic: Time to Act on Dementia, Time to Act on Alzheimer’s

Number of Participants: Around 100, which included students of B.Pharm, M.Pharm, and Pharm.D, along with staff members from various departments.

On 20^th September 2024, ABIPER organized a seminar titled “Time to Act on Dementia, Time to Act on Alzheimer’s” in observance of World Alzheimer’s Day. Dr. K. Joshi Hanumanthachar, Principal of Sarada Vilas College of Pharmacy, Mysuru, was the resource person. The seminar covered Alzheimer’s disease, early diagnosis, preventive strategies, and innovative treatments. A Q&A session followed, where students and staff engaged with Dr. K Joshi Hanumanthachar. 100 participants attended, gaining valuable insights on Alzheimer’s and dementia. The event was a successful initiative in raising awareness on this important health issue.

Objectives: The key objectives of Rashtriya Poshan Maah are:

1. Raise awareness about the importance of proper nutrition for health and development.
2. Encourage community involvement in improving nutrition-related behaviors.
3. Promote the consumption of locally available, nutrient-dense foods.
4. Mobilize support from multiple sectors for improving nutrition outcomes, such as education, healthcare, agriculture, and sanitation.
5. Strengthen existing government programs and schemes related to nutrition and ensure last-mile delivery.

Summary:

As part of the Rastriya Poshan Maah initiative, a seminar was conducted by NSS Committee to address two critical topics: Anaemia and the role of millets in improving nutrition. The seminar was led by a speaker, Ms. Vijaya Laxshmi a renowned nutritionist and public health expert, who shared valuable insights into the relationship between anaemia, nutritional deficiencies, and the potential of millets to combat malnutrition. The seminar was aimed at raising awareness among the community about the importance of nutrition in preventing anaemia and promoting the use of millets as a sustainable dietary solution.

  • Prevalence of Anaemia: The speaker began by explaining that anaemia is a major public health concern in India, particularly among women and children. According to national health surveys, a significant portion of the population suffers from iron deficiency anaemia, which affects physical and cognitive development.
  • Causes: Anaemia is primarily caused by insufficient iron intake, poor absorption of iron, chronic diseases, and parasitic infections. The speaker emphasized the importance of understanding the underlying causes to effectively address the condition.
  • Effects: The consequences of anaemia include fatigue, weakness, impaired cognitive and physical development in children, and complications during pregnancy. The speaker stressed the importance of early detection and treatment of anaemia, especially among vulnerable groups.

Rajiv Gandhi University of Health Sciences Bengaluru North Zone Kabaddi Tournament was hosted by the Aditya Bangalore Institute of Pharmacy Education & Research (ABIPER) on 30 ^th to 31^st August 2024. 23 teams and 270 players from various colleges in Karnataka participated in Rajiv Gandhi University of Health Sciences, Bengaluru North Zone Kabaddi Tournament.

In a thrilling final match, Aditya Bangalore Institute of Pharmacy Education and Research (ABIPER), Yelahanka, Bangalore, emerged the winners of the prestigious RGUHS, Bengaluru North Zone Kabaddi Tournament. Sridevi College of Physiotherapy, Tumkur was the runners -up.
