ABIPER  NSS Cell and Department of Pharmacy Practice in collaboration with the Pharmacy Council of India, celebrated World Pharmacy Day with a series of engaging events on 24th and 25th September 2024. The first-day events include various competitions, including poster-making, and Quiz competition with the theme “Pharmacists: Meeting Global Health Needs.” Students showcased creative ideas highlighting pharmacists’ crucial role in healthcare, research, and medicine distribution.

On the second day, a free health checkup camp was organized for the community, offering basic health screenings such as blood pressure monitoring, glucose testing ( Blue Cross Laboratories helped in the glucose monitoring and distribution of OTC medications), and consultations. This initiative reinforced the college’s commitment to public health and awareness. The event was graced by dignitaries, including Dr. Sirse Kranti Kumar, M. Pharm, Ph.D, Registrar, Karnataka State Pharmacy Council, who delivered an inspiring speech on the evolving role of pharmacists in global health. The celebrations concluded with the felicitation of the guests and a renewed sense of purpose among students to contribute meaningfully to the healthcare sector.

RGUHS Bengaluru North Zone Intercollegiate Volleyball Tournament was organized by   Rajiv Gandhi University of Health Sciences (RGUHS), Karnataka in association with Dr. BR Ambedkar Medical College, Bangalore from 24-09-24 to 25 -09- 2024.

In a thrilling final match, Aditya Bangalore Institute of Pharmacy Education and Research (ABIPER), Yelahanka, Bangalore, emerged the Runners up of the prestigious RGUHS Bengaluru North Zone Intercollegiate Volleyball Tournament 2024-2025.

Each year, Teacher’s day is celebrated on the 5 th of September in India. Teacher’s Day is marked in honor of Dr. Sarvepalli Radhakrishnan, who was born on September 5, 1888. Dr Radhakrishnan was India’s first vice president and second president. He was a great scholar, philosopher and Bharat Ratna recipient. Since 1962 – the year he became president – India has commemorated Dr Radhakrishnan’s birth anniversary by paying tribute to its teachers and gurus on this day.

Teacher’s day was celebrated in a grand manner on 5 th September 2024 at Aditya Bangalore Institute of Pharmacy Education and Research (ABIPER), Bengaluru in the college premises. All the staff & students participated in the celebration. The grand function included inspiring speech by Dr. Priya Vishwanath, Vice-Chairman, Aditya Institutions, Bengaluru followed by a dazzling cultural program by the talented students of ABIPER

The Department of Pharmacy Practice successfully conducted a rally to commemorate National Pharmacovigilance Week 2024. The rally, themed “Building ADR Reporting Culture for Patient Safety,” aimed to raise awareness about the importance of reporting adverse drug reactions (ADRs). Participants enthusiastically marched through the streets, carrying banners and placards that highlighted the significance of early ADR reporting in ensuring patient safety. The event was a resounding success, generating significant public awareness and fostering a culture of responsible medication use.

Report: The Ganesh Pooja celebration was held to honor Lord Ganesha, the remover of obstacles and the god of wisdom and prosperity. The event brought together devotees and community members to celebrate this auspicious occasion with devotion and joy. The venue was adorned with vibrant flowers, colourful rangoli, and a beautifully crafted idol of Lord Ganesha. Lights were strung to enhance the festive atmosphere.

Ceremony Highlights:

  • Pooja Rituals: The pooja commenced with traditional chants and aarti. Devotees participated actively, offering flowers and sweets to the idol.
  • Cultural Programs: The event included cultural performances such as dance and music, showcasing local talent and fostering community spirit.
  • Community Involvement: Attendees shared their thoughts and blessings, enhancing the feeling of unity among participants.

Prasad Distribution:

Post-pooja, prasad (blessed offerings) was distributed to all attendees, symbolizing the sharing of blessings and gratitude.

Conclusion:

The Ganesh Pooja celebration was a grand success, fostering a sense of community and spirituality. It reinforced the values of devotion, love, and togetherness. Feedback from participants was overwhelmingly positive, with many expressing their desire to make this an annual event.

Number of Participants: Around 100, which included students of B.Pharm, M.Pharm, and Pharm.D, along with staff members from various departments.

 

On 20th September 2024, ABIPER organized a seminar titled “Time to Act on Dementia, Time to Act on Alzheimer’s” in observance of World Alzheimer’s Day. Dr. K. Joshi Hanumanthachar, Principal of Sarada Vilas College of Pharmacy, Mysuru, was the resource person. The seminar covered Alzheimer’s disease, early diagnosis, preventive strategies, and innovative treatments. A Q&A session followed, where students and staff engaged with Dr. K Joshi Hanumanthachar. 100 participants attended, gaining valuable insights on Alzheimer’s and dementia. The event was a successful initiative in raising awareness on this important health issue.

Event Overview

The Internal Hackathon for Smart India Hackathon (SIH) 2024 was organized with the aim of fostering innovation, collaboration, and creative problem-solving among participants. This event brought together talented individuals from diverse backgrounds, including students, developers, and professionals, to tackle real-world challenges posed by various sectors.

Objective

The primary goal of the hackathon was to encourage participants to develop innovative solutions that align with the themes of SIH 2024. By providing a platform for teamwork and experimentation, we aimed to cultivate a culture of creativity and technical prowess within our organization.

Format and Structure

  • Duration: The hackathon spanned 48 hours, providing participants ample time to brainstorm, design, and prototype their solutions.
  • Teams: Participants formed teams of 6 members, promoting collaboration and leveraging diverse skill sets.
  • Themes: Teams were encouraged to choose from a set of predefined themes related to technology, sustainability, healthcare, and smart cities.
  • Mentorship: Experienced mentors from various fields were available throughout the event to provide guidance and technical support.

Highlights

  1. Kick-off Session: The event began with an inspiring opening ceremony featuring keynote speakers who shared insights on innovation and the importance of technology in solving societal challenges.
  2. Workshops: Participants attended workshops on emerging technologies such as AI, IoT, and blockchain, equipping them with tools to enhance their projects.
  3. Networking Opportunities: The hackathon facilitated networking among participants, mentors, and industry experts, fostering connections that could lead to future collaborations.
  4. Pitching Round: Teams presented their projects to a panel of judges, showcasing their prototypes and explaining the impact of their solutions.

Judging Criteria

Projects were evaluated based on:

  • Innovation: Originality and creativity of the solution.
  • Technical Feasibility: The practicality and technical soundness of the prototype.
  • Impact: Potential impact on the target audience and scalability of the solution.
  • Presentation: Clarity and effectiveness of the team’s pitch.

Conclusion

Participants not only gained valuable skills but also contributed to meaningful projects that could potentially make a significant impact. Objectives: The key objectives of Rashtriya Poshan Maah are:

  1. Raise awareness about the importance of proper nutrition for health and development.
  2. Encourage community involvement in improving nutrition-related behaviors.
  3. Promote the consumption of locally available, nutrient-dense foods.
  4. Mobilize support from multiple sectors for improving nutrition outcomes, such as education, healthcare, agriculture, and sanitation.
  5. Strengthen existing government programs and schemes related to nutrition and ensure last-mile delivery.

 

Summary:

As part of the Rastriya Poshan Maah initiative, a seminar was conducted by NSS Committee to address two critical topics: Anaemia and the role of millets in improving nutrition. The seminar was led by a speaker, Ms. Vijaya Laxshmi a renowned nutritionist and public health expert, who shared valuable insights into the relationship between anaemia, nutritional deficiencies, and the potential of millets to combat malnutrition. The seminar was aimed at raising awareness among the community about the importance of nutrition in preventing anaemia and promoting the use of millets as a sustainable dietary solution.

Key Points Covered:

  • Anaemia: Causes, Effects, and Prevention
    • Prevalence of Anaemia: The speaker began by explaining that anaemia is a major public health concern in India, particularly among women and children. According to national health surveys, a significant portion of the population suffers from iron deficiency anaemia, which affects physical and cognitive development.
    • Causes: Anaemia is primarily caused by insufficient iron intake, poor absorption of iron, chronic diseases, and parasitic infections. The speaker emphasized the importance of understanding the underlying causes to effectively address the condition.
    • Effects: The consequences of anaemia include fatigue, weakness, impaired cognitive and physical development in children, and complications during pregnancy. The speaker stressed the importance of early detection and treatment of anaemia, especially among vulnerable groups.
